Have you ever heard of St. Michael’s Lent?
St. Michael’s Lent dates back to the 13th century when St. Francis of Assisi received the stigmata on the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (Sept. 14).
The tradition, described in The Little Flowers of St. Francis by St. Bonaventure, honors Our Lady and St. Michael.
Much like a ‘mini-Lent,’ the devotion lasts 40 days (excluding Sundays). This period of prayer, fasting, and penance begins on the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Aug. 15) and ends on the feast of St. Michael (Sept. 29.)
Meditation Prayer Booklet
This devotion draws a person closer to Jesus Christ and his Holy wounds.
One way to enter into Jesus’ Passion is to meditate on the wounds he received and the blood that poured forth from those wounds. It is an ancient devotion in the Church, one that has roots in the New Testament.
Here is a short guide to a beautiful devotion to Jesus’ Passion called the “Chaplet of the Precious Blood.” It contains powerful prayers that can be prayed using an ordinary rosary.
Read more about this devotion and how to pray the Precious Blood chaplet here.
The Novena of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is prayed daily in the Mary Chapel, immediately following the 7:15 daily Mass.
