Requirements for Baptism/Baptismal Process
The Baptismal preparation process at our parish includes the following:
1. Registered parishioner, attending daily and/or Sunday Masses, and practicing the Catholic faith. Non-registered parishioners should secure a written permit to have their preparations for baptism at St. Basil’s from their respective parishes.
2. After prayer and discussion, if you feel ready to begin the preparation please complete and return the following forms to the parish office:
o A photocopy of the child’s live birth certificate.
o Baptismal Registration Form. (Click here to print)
o Good Faith Statement for Godparents. (Click here to print)
o Baptismal Preparation Class Certificate (A legible copy With Church Seal) for both the Parent(s) and Godparent(s) if the Parent(s) or Godparent(s) have attended a previous baptismal preparation class at St. Basil’s Church or another location (local or out of state).
3. Attend one (1) baptismal preparation class which is held on the first (1st) Saturday of the month from 8:30am to 12:00 noon in the Fr. Garrigan room. If you choose to continue with the preparation during the session, you and your Godparents will receive specific instructions regarding the day of the Rite of Baptism for your child.
Note: Both Parents and Godparents are required to attend baptism classes. Parent(s) and Godparent(s) who reside outside of the Diocese of Sacramento must present a valid baptismal preparation course completion certificate or letter of completion of pre-baptismal classes from their respective parish. The Diocese of Sacramento and St. Basil the Great parish requires that the attendance of any baptismal preparation class has not exceeded two (2) years.
4. A donation of $50.00 is greatly appreciated to cover the cost of the course reference book, candle, white garment, certificate, and class preparation.
5. Scheduling for baptisms will be done on the day of the class by baptismal preparation team members and not by the parish office staff. No scheduling will be made for the date of your child's baptism until all of the above-listed requirements have been completed and paperwork received by the parish. The Baptismal Preparation and Administrative Coordinators will work closely with you to schedule the best possible date for your child’s baptism. It is common practice for the Baptism to be celebrated at least one month after the preparation session. Baptisms are usually held on the third Saturday of each month at 11:30 AM.
